One of my biggest complaints about Google Docs Spreadsheets is that their is no formatting menu to add hyperlinks to text in a cell. You actually have to use the following notation to make it happen:

=hyperlink(”URL”,”Hyperlinked  Text”)

Beyond that to indicate a cell is hyperlinked you need to format it yourself or the cell will simply appear as having text in the box with no link. Mousing over gives you a little indicator that the cell is a link but you probably would want to format the text with a blue color and underline so you know that it’s a link. My other pet peeve is that the context sensitive help doesn’t indicate that you need the quotes around your pair so entering the example:

=hyperlink(www.socializedSoftware.com, Socialized Software)

This would yield an #ERROR!. See the example below for some of the things I am talking about.

Okay I am done griping it has just been a very big inconvenience for me today.  I hope this helps someone.

I have a lunch meeting today and I was mapping directions on Google when I realized there was a link to Street View. So I clicked on it and imagine my surprise when I saw a picture of my house.  I was a little shocked. I live in a suburb of Raleigh,NC it’s not what I consider to be a major city but Google took it upon itself to photograph and integrate my little neighborhood into their Google Street View. Then I mapped the restaurant and was able to see the building I was going to. It’s such a helpful feature because I couldn’t picture where I was going but I have been down the street many times. What will Google think of next?

The New York Times is reporting the market share for Google has reached 65% of U.S. searches for November 2007 according to Hitwise. Followed by Yahoo!, Microsoft, and Ask.

Google Webspam Engineer Matt Cutts has a really good video on how Google search snippets are generated. Since I brought Socialized Software online I have been working on what i need to do to generate search traffic. This is a great tutorial on how Google creates your listing and what you can do to try and alter it.

I read  at the Download Squad that IMAP options were showing up in Gmail. So I logged into my account and sure enough, I had the option to enable IMAP.

This is very interesting, because there’s no ad stream when you checkvia IMAP. I wonder if we will start getting email advertisements or ifthere is some other hidden benefit in having an IMAP and POP emailoption. Perhaps getting more people reliant on Gmail that avoided itbecause of the web interface. Once you have a person’s email addressyou have a great way to reach out to people though I don’t recall everreceiving an email from Google asking for anything…

I can’t believe it Google (GOOG)shares closed at $609.52 yesterday. Yep that’s a huge and it puts theirmarket cap at $190.28 Billion in just over three years, Microsoft is at$289.55B and they IPO’d in March 1986, 22+ years ago.

Google’s IPO’d for $85 a share. Of course I didn’t participatebecause being so pragmatic I thought it was over-priced.  Guess who’scrying today. Part of my problem is that I was a former investmentadvisor and certain red flags come up when you look at Google.Eventoday the P/E Ratio is 51.82. But all the signs are there especially since I am such a big Peter Lynch fan who said, "Invest in what you know."

• I know technology, duh.
• I use Google at least 100 times a day.
• I pay Google large sums of money for advertising.
• Google is so well-used that people now use it as a verb in conversation, "I Googled your company and see you are doing well."
• I am an open soure fan, and Google is one of the world’s largest open source supporters/users
• Google scales because of its pure web play, I am in the business of scaling companies using the web
• Less scientific but Google IPO’d on my birthday

Here’s a look at Google’s chart over the last three years. Getting inon the open of Google would have given me a 600% return in threeyears.

So today I am meeting with my broker for lunch let me tell you I won’tget fooled again. Money is going into my current tech darlings andhoping the results are Google-like.
